Chemics Ousted from the MHSAA Playoffs!
Week one of the MHSAA play-offs is in the books! The Chemics came out flat for the first 3 quarters as they went down 0-21 heading into the fourth quarter. Battling back in the 4th quarter the Chemics brought the score to 13-21 with a chance to cover an onside kick. A couple quick skips and the Trojans recovered the onside kick and took a few knees to put the game on ice. Martin Money ran for a whopping 112 yards on 19 carries and caught 3 balls for 30 yards to lead the way for the Chemics in both recieving and rushing. The Chemics end the season with an (8-2) record. The Traverse City Central Trojans will play against there own cross-town rival Traverse City West on 11/3/17 at 7p.m.

Playoff Week 1 Preview and Predicitons
It is playoff time for MHSAA football. The Midland Chemics
look to extend their 8-game winning streak to 9 on Friday, October 27 at 7 pm
at home against the Trojans of Traverse City Central. The Trojans enter the
playoffs with a record of (6-3) and boast a very strong offense that scores 35
points per game. The Chemics and Trojans had two common opponents during the regular
season, with both losing to Traverse City West and both defeating Bay City Western. This should be a great test to start the playoffs for the Chemics as
they look to continue their winning ways during a deep run in the playoffs.
Predictions:
Jeff: 28-21 Midland
Austin: 42-28 Midland
Ty: 23-14 Midland
Tyler: 35-20 Midland

The Classic Crosstown Showdown
Arguably the biggest high school football rivalry in the state, this game has a-lot at stake! The winner of this game will likely take first place in the district and have home-field advantage for week 10. This is the 51st meeting between the two foes with the Midland Chemics owning the all-time series 36-14. The Chargers have taken the past 4 games from the Chemics which is the Chargers longest winning streak all time. This is only the 6th meeting between the two teams where both teams records are at 7-1. Putting statisitcs aside, these two football teams have had outstanding seasons and I am really looking forward to seeing a classic clash between the two schools. Should be one for the books!! Oh.. and I forgot to mention.. these two teams could very well meet again in the playoffs! So don't get to comfy!
Week 9 Predictions
After watching a-lot of the Saginaw Valley League football teams play and seeing how each team faired against different match-ups I have came up with a few bold predictions for week 9. I believe the Red Division absolutley crushes the Blue division in strenght of schedules and thats why I have 3 SVL Red teams in the playoff picture(Midland High, Davison, Lapeer).
-I think the Midland High football team keeps the offense rolling and the defense makes some key stops to take down the Chargers for the first time in 4 years! 10,000 fans will be watching this cross town rivalry game!
Davison Vs. Flint Powers Catholic: 42-14 Cardinals.
-I think Davison is the most athletic team in the SVL and will take no mercy heading into the playoffs. The cardinals running back will have a big night in a blow-out victory for the home team!
Lapeer Vs. Flint Carman-Ainsworth: 35-28 Lapeer.
-This will be a tight matchup that may come down to who has the ball last. Like I said before, I do believe the Red Division is the toughest division in the SVL and I just don't see Lapeer losing 3 straight games in a row especially in-front of the home crowd with there playoff hopes on the line!
SVL playoff teams and week 9 match-ups
Standing alone at the top of each Saginaw Valley conference are both Midland High(7-1) and Dow High(7-1) making week nines match-up that much more meaningful! Going in to week 9 there are only 3 teams that are a for sure lock in the playoffs: Midland High, Dow High, & Davison. Three teams are batteling for a playoff birth: Lapeer, Carman-Ainsworth, & Flint Powers Catholic. Lapeer takes on Carman-Ainsworth head on in a classic cross division rivalry game this Friday night in a do or die match-up. The winner will go on to the playoffs as the loser will most likely find themselves out of luck. The last SVL team that has a shot for playoffs would be Powers Catholic who will take on the Davison Cardinals who have already wrapped up there own playoff birth. As Powers Catholic has a lot more to play for this Friday night, The Davison Cardinals are an outstanding football team and when things are clicking for them I think they are the scariest team in the SVL with a running back that just went on a visit to Michigan State. Powers Catholic will have there hands full come Friday night!

Meet the Quarterback
An Interview with:
Cade Methner
(Midland Daily News)
Q: Your team has had a great run so far this season, with some big wins over some tough teams. What dynamic makes this years Midland team successful and different from the teams in the past?
Cade Methner: "I think we are a special group because we all love football. Everyone has fun all the time, even at practice. Our chemistry is awesome. I think we are also at an advantage because we trust our coaches, and have a great relationship with them."
Q: What win are you most proud of this season and which team is on your radar that you'll have to watch out for during your playoff run?
Cade Methner: "As a team, we are especially proud of our Davison win, because we worked and prepared so hard, and they were suppose to be the best team ever."
Q: If someone asked you which teammate you are luck to have on your side of the ball rather than have to play against them, which teammate would you give the spotlight to?
Cade Methner: "I would give the spotlight to Mitchell Reid. He plays both ways for us, which is uncommon, and he loves the game. Always gives 100%."

Chemics trounce Lapeer 35-14
The Chemics roll once again as they beat Lapeer 35-14 to win the SVL Red championship. Cade Methner took no mercy on Lapeer as he threw completed 90% of his passes for 155 yards and 3 touchdowns. Methner also added 22 carries for a whopping 141 yards and 1 touchdown. This was a huge win for the Chemics as they try and carry this momentum into week 9 where they meet the cross town foes. Both Midland and Dow will be heading into week 9 with 7-1 records. Go Blue!!!

Week 8 Opponent Preview: Lapeer Lightning
The Midland Chemics Varsity Football Team will be
entering their week 8 matchup with the Lapeer Lightning on Friday, October 13
at Midland High School. The Chemics will enter the game with a playoff berth
already in hand after winning their 6th game of the season last
week, defeating the Saginaw Trojans 23-6. The Lightning are not a team to taken
lightly though, as they carry a (5-2) record in the game. Lapeer has a very
strong offense that is averaging scoring just under 35 points per game. The
defense is no slouch either, giving up only 20 points per game itself. This
game will be hard fought with Lapeer trying to keep pace in the league as well
as lock up a guaranteed playoff spot, while Midland will look to take a
commanding lead in the league and improve their playoff position. The game is
scheduled to kickoff at 7:00 pm.

to pick up their sixth win of the season and lock up a playoff spot in the
MHSAA State Tournament with a victory over the Saginaw Trojans on Friday October
5, 2017. The game will be at Saginaw High School with kickoff scheduled for
7:00 pm. The Trojans enter the contest with a (1-5) record. Saginaw has
struggled this year on both sides of the football. They are scoring just over 7
points per game, while their defense is giving up just over 29 points per game.
The Chemics will look to take full advantage in this game and get the win that
will send them to the playoffs.

Week 6 Review: Midland is #1
(W) 39-25 for the Chemics over (previously) undefeated Davidson!
Long story short, this was the game to be at on Friday night. Davidson's star RB Tariq Reid was slowed down after a huge hit on a screen play and didn't become a second half factor and was kept out of the end zone all game long. Midland's quarterback had huge numbers in the air and the team displayed a great balance of their run and passing game. Now with a 5-1 record approaching week 7, is this the beginning of a potentially deep playoff run?
