It was a very successful fall sports season for the Midland
High Chemics. The football team won a league championship and made the playoffs
this year. The volleyball team made it all the way to the state quarterfinals.
The women’s golf team played well this year and competed in the regional
outing. The men’s soccer team finished a strong season with a 5-2-2 league
record. Both the men’s and women’s cross-country teams had great seasons and
competed for regional titles. Men’s tennis had a good season with several wins.
Every athlete should be proud of what each Midland High team accomplished this
year and hopefully the success continues in the winter sports season.

D2 State Finals Is Set!
Warren De La Salle stuns Detroit Martin Luther King 14-13 and Franklin High School Shut out Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central 20-0.
De La Salle will take on Franklin on Friday, November 24th @ 1:00 p.m.
Predictions:
~28-21 Warren De La Salle~
-Both teams are on a roll and playing good football. What makes these two teams so good is the defense they bring to the table week in and week out. I believe this game will come down to the wire in a hard fought football game. The team with the least amount of mistakes and penalties will win. I am going to give the edge to De La Salle. With beating an outstanding Detroit Martin Luther King team and holding them to only 13 points really opened my eyes. I also believe De La Salle has the better offense in this matchup. De La Salle will win this one by outscoring Franklin by just enough to bring home a state championship!!!

Predictions for D2 Semi-Final Games
Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central v. Livonia Franklin
Prediction:
-This matchup features an undefeated Forest Hills Central team who has a high powered offense versus a stout Livonia defense. Looking into both teams schedules, I see a standout victory for Forest Hills Central who beat argubly one of the best teams in the state Muskegon Mona Shores and knocked them out of the play-offs in a 28-21 victory. That being said Im going to stick with the undefeated Forest Hills Central team in a hard fought football game.
Score: 35-21 Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central.
Detroit Martin Luther King v. Warren DeLaSalle
Prediction:
-Detroit Martin Luther King will jump out to a big lead and the defense will hold strong in a blow-out victory for MLK. The athleticism on the MLK will be to much for DeLaSalle. If DeLaSalle wants to win this game they need to slow the game down and keep MLK's offense off the field and maintain long drives on offense. Unfortunately, I don't believe DeLaSalle has enough left in the tank to pull off a semi-final game miracle. Im taking MLK in a blow-out and I am also taking MLK to win the division 2 championship at Ford Field.
Score: 45-14 Detroit Martin Luther King.

Mitch Reid Interview
Q: What were your overall expectations for the season
and how did they compare to what happened?
A: I always have high expectations of myself but that
doesn’t always mean team success. We were not sure how good we were going to be
this season, but everyone stepped up and we had a great season.
Q: When others in the group asked about the leaders of
the team, your name came up a lot. Do you feel that you took on a leadership
role for the team?
A: It was not just one person who took on a leadership
role. We tried to lead by example and give everything we had every practice and
game trying to get everyone to do that as well.
Q: After suffering a tough loss week 1, the team
bounced back and won 8 in a row. What could you see change after that first
game that led to success?
A: We never got that down on ourselves. We just got
back to work and put everything we had every day and the results followed.
Q: Do you play any other sports?
A: Not really, I play football, snowboard, and enjoy rock
climbing.
Q: Do you have any plans already set for after
graduation?
I would like to thank Mitch for taking time to talk and congratulate him on a great season and career. I would also like to wish him well in his future endeavors. He is a great young man with a bright future ahead of him.

- "I think we improved the most with our mindset, every game we played we believed more and more"
Q:Who were the leaders for the Chemics this year?
- "It is hard to name a few leaders, I think everyone had their role and knew what they could do to help the team and that is what they did."
Q: What was your favorite memory as a member of the Chemic football team?
- "My favorite memory as a Chemic was walking off the field against Midland Dow, knowing that we got them my senior year."
Q: What sports, if any, do you plan on playing for the remainder of the year?
- "I plan on playing basketball and baseball for the Chemics this year as well.
Q: What are your plans for after graduation?
-"After graduating I plan on studying criminal justice and playing baseball or football, or possibly both at the next level."
I want to thank Martin for his time as a member of the Chemic football team as well as wish him good luck in all of his endeavors until he graduates and after graduation! Good luck, Martin! Go Chemics!
